BizScape Version 1.1 To Begin Shipping

Toolset includes full Excel integration and new visualization features

May 17, 2004, Waltham, MA. VoxVue Corporation, a leading provider of data-visualization tools for executive decision makers, announced today that it has begun shipping version 1.1 of its flagship product, BizScape. Among the enhancements in the new version is a complete and seamless integration with Microsoft Excel. The new release represents a significant step toward making the software an easy, natural complement to traditional desktop productivity tools as well as a visual front end to more complex business-intelligence solutions.

“There are millions of executives around the globe crunching numbers with Excel,” VoxVue CEO John Morey explained. “It’s such a powerful, ubiquitous tool that it’s become an essential part of every executive’s arsenal. The problem comes when decision makers need to chart an enterprise’s future course or get a handle on lots of disparate data. Excel was never meant to be a collaborative tool in the sense of combining or blending worksheets. And while power users can embed powerful algorithms into Excel to perform ‘what-if’ scenarios, it’s not easy for a roomful of people to really understand just what they’re looking at when they see the resulting numbers. What we call the ‘last mile’ in business intelligence is finding an effective way to deliver all that precious intelligence to the decision makers who need it.”

“That’s where BizScape comes in,” continued Morey. “BizScape lets you take advantage of the desktop tools you already use, combine and blend that data in whatever way makes the most sense to you and depict it graphically in 3D models so that it’s easy to understand. Good decisions can only happen if the decision makers have all the information they need in front of them. The newest version of BizScape lets executives link to their existing Excel spreadsheets and display the knowledge in them graphically. Our software contains data-rich graphics that remain linked to the underlying information that drives their appearance. That allows working groups to model operational or strategic direction either by dragging and dropping the graphics, in which case new calculations will take place automatically, or by changing the underlying data, in which case the BizScape model will automatically reflect the modifications graphically.”

“We’ve worked very hard to develop BizScape’s ability to present complex data in an intuitive, graphical format. Enterprises have tremendous amounts of data, but can’t solve real-world problems without an easy way to get access to it. We believe that BizScape provides that access in a powerful and elegant way,” said Morey. “The best part is that BizScape isn’t only an extension of typical Microsoft Office tools, but BizScape can also link to much more complex data, like OLAP cubes or the information and analytics collected and generated by enterprise business intelligence solutions.”

In addition to complete Excel integration, BizScape version 1.1 contains many new enhancements to aid in the visualization of complex data. Stated Morey, “We’ve created a desktop tool that’s easy to learn but that can depict vast amounts of information graphically so that executive teams can fully understand the issues before them and make good decisions.”
